Coach Zach Shtogren is a USA Track and Field Level 1 certified coach and a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Endurance Specialist. Raised in Virginia in a family of athletes, he discovered running in middle school, and began running competitively after college.
Coach Shtogren has coached top-performing high school runners at the Prospect Park Youth Running Club and Midwood High School. He has also led clinics in dynamic stretching and strengthening for NYRR's High School Cross Country Training Series. His athletes have led their fields in cross country and track and field at PSAL, NYSAIS and USATF competitions as well as Footlocker and Nike.
His training philosophy is a mix of Jack Daniels and Arthur Lydiard with a focus on applying an appropriate amount of volume and intensity at the right time in a training cycle. Coach Shtogren is a firm believer that running has the potential to shape and redirect lives at whatever age, and that a diligent athlete who focuses on a long-term goal can achieve just about anything.
Coach Shtogren holds a Bachelors in French and a Masters in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. He lives in South Brooklyn where he trains with the Dashing Whippets.
